Using simple, sharp tools to cut lines, textures and other marks into lino "tiles", a "negative" design is produced on the surface of the tile. Printing ink is then applied using rollers and the image transferred onto printing paper using a press or hand pressure. To produce an image in more than one colour, more lino can be cut away and another ink applied. Lino prints can also be hand embellished, for example with gold leaf.
